The Seven Wonders of the Ancient World

1. The Great Pyramid of Giza
The only Wonder that remains standing today, this Egyptian tomb weighs roughly 5.9 million tons.

2. Temple of Artemis
This massive shrine to the Greek Goddess of the hunt was rebuilt at Ephesus three times.

3. Statue of Zeus at Olympia
Constructed of ivory and gold-plated bronze, the skill involved in this likeness was the subject of legend.

4. Mausoleum of Halicarnassus
Each of the four four walls of this monument was covered with reliefs by a different Greek sculptor.

5. Hanging Gardens of Semiramis
Ornamental plantings on the ziggurats of ancient Babylon, these were built to please a homesick queen.

6. Colossus of Rhodes
Ancient authors claim that this sculpture of Apollo was so large the span of its legs straddled an entire harbor.

7. Lighthouse of Alexandria
The location of this monument, one of the tallest structures on the planet for centuries, was famous for another building that met a tragic end.
